Tax Structure

Taxes are collected by the counties.

Due Date/Delinquent Date
|
1st installment due October 1 - delinquent November 1
2nd installment due March 1 of the following calendar year and delinquent May 1
Taxes may be paid in full by December 31st of each year.

Tax Sales
|
Delinquent taxes can be sold at a tax lien sale nine months after the second installment becomes delinquent. Tax lien sales are held in February. Property tax liens for delinquent taxes are sold to the person who pays the full amount of delinquent taxes, interest, penalties, and charges due, and who offers to accept the lowest interest rate, (not to exceed 16%) in the amount paid to redeem the property from sale.

Redemption
|
If a tax lien has not been redeemed within 3 years from the date of sale, the purchaser may seek a court ordered deed from the superior court. If not redeemed within 5 years, the purchaser may apply to the county treasurer for a Treasurer’s Deed to the property.
