Tax Structure
 Tax bills are issued by the counties.
 
Due Date
 Real Property Taxes –
 1st half due 11/30
 2nd half due 5/31 of the following year
 
 Mobile Home Taxes–
 1st half due 5/31
 2nd half due 11/30
 
Penalties and interest are added the day after taxes are due. Penalty is 2% of the total due and is a one-time charge.
Interest is calculated at 5/6 of one percent per month of the total due. It is simple interest applied the 1st day of each month for as long as taxes are delinquent 
 
When paying through the mail the postmark is accepted.
 
Tax Sales
This is NOT an auction of property.
Liens may be purchased, if the requirements of MCA 15-17-212(1) and (3) “Proof of Mail Notice” are completed.
The County Places liens on all remaining properties, not purchased, that has entered into a delinquent status. This process occurs yearly in July. The County, if requested, will assign their interest to a third party, for the amount of the delinquent taxes, plus an assignment fee. Assignments can be issued at any time.
